Should You Get Invisalign®?
-
You should consider getting clear aligners if you have mild to moderate:
- Overbite or underbite
- Crowded teeth
- Gaps between your teeth
- Crossbite
If your orthodontic issues are severe or require surgery before or after orthodontic adjustment, Invisalign may not be right for you.
Invisalign® Procedure
Your Invisalign treatment begins with an initial consultation, where Dr. Gomez will explain how Invisalign and determine whether they are appropriate for you. From there, the following steps will take you from the exam to the final clear aligner fitting:
- Using an iTero scanner, we create a 3D image of your current smile and a personalized treatment plan.
- We will show you a 3D digital image of what your new smile will look like.
- A set of custom clear aligners are created for you.
- You will come in for a fitting when the aligners arrive at our office.
- You will try on the first aligners, and we will carefully trim them to remove any rough edges and ensure that they fit comfortably.
- You wear each aligner for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, and floss.
- As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move gradually, week by week.
- You’ll visit Drs. Gomez about once every 6 weeks to ensure your treatment progresses as planned.
- You will periodically get a new set of aligners until your teeth have straightened to the final position Drs. Gomez has prescribed.
- Total treatment time averages 9 – 15 months, and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
Benefits of Invisalign®
Invisalign clear braces offer several benefits for anyone who wants to straighten their teeth without resorting to metal braces and brackets, including:
- You can remove clear aligners to eat and drink.
- Keeping your teeth and gums clean is easy because you remove the aligner to brush and floss.
- Clear aligners are virtually invisible.
- Invisalign aligners are smooth and comfortable to wear.
- The advanced technology used to create the aligners ensures a predictable outcome.
- You can remove your clear aligners for special occasions or photographs.
Invisalign® vs. Traditional Braces
Although both Invisalign clear aligners and traditional braces both straighten your teeth effectively, there are some differences you should consider.
- Invisalign usually straightens teeth faster, but traditional braces are more effective for severe misalignment.
- To avoid injuries in contact sports, Invisalign clear aligners can be removed, while a custom mouth guard to cover metal braces is required.
- Invisalign tends to break less often than wires and brackets.
- It is easier to lose or misplace clear aligners when you remove them for eating or drinking.
- If you are not diligent about wearing clear aligners 20-22 hours daily, they will not be effective. Traditional braces work around the clock.
